Found in coastal and shallow waters, it is prized for its delicate, mildly sweet white flesh. Ray fish is often prepared by frying, grilling, or in curries. It is a good source of protein and low in fat, making it a healthy seafood option.

वागळी, ज्याला इंग्रजीत रे फिश म्हणतात, हा एक प्रकारचा हाडमोड नसलेला मासा आहे जो शार्कसारखा दिसतो, पण त्याचा शरीर पातळ आणि पंखासारखा विस्तारलेला असतो, आणि त्याची शेपटी लांबट असते. तो किनाऱ्याजवळील उथळ पाण्यात आढळतो. वागळीचा मांस सौम्य आणि गोडसर चव असलेला पांढऱ्या रंगाचा असतो. तो तळणे, ग्रिल करणे किंवा करीमध्ये वापरला जातो. वागळी प्रथिनेयुक्त आणि कमी चरबीचा मासा आहे, ज्यामुळे तो आरोग्यासाठी उपयुक्त आहे.

Wagli (Ray Fish) वागळी

🌶️ Spicy Wagli (Ray Fish) Curry – वागळी मसालेदार करी

Ingredients:

  • Wagli (Ray Fish) – 500g (cleaned and cut)

  • Oil – 3 tbsp

  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp

  • Curry leaves – 10–12

  • Onions – 2 medium (finely chopped)

  • Garlic – 6 cloves (crushed)

  • Ginger – 1 inch piece (grated)

  • Green chilies – 2 (slit)

  • Tomatoes – 2 medium (pureed)

  • Tamarind paste – 1 tbsp (or soaked tamarind extract)

  • Red chili powder – 1.5 tsp (adjust to taste)

  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp

  • Coriander powder – 1 tbsp

  • Garam masala – ½ tsp

  • Salt – to taste

  • Fresh coriander – for garnish

  • Water – 1 to 1.5 cups

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add curry leaves.

  2. Add chopped onions, garlic, ginger, and green chilies. Sauté until onions turn golden.

  3. Add pureed tomatoes and cook until oil separates.

  4. Add turmeric, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well.

  5. Add tamarind paste and water; bring to boil.

  6. Add Wagli pieces gently, cover, and simmer for 10–12 minutes or until fish is cooked.

  7. Sprinkle garam masala, stir gently.

  8. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot with steamed rice or bhakri.
